Abstract
This paper analyses the effects of dynamic correlations between stock and bond returns issued by the same firm on the speed of adjustment towards target leverage. The results show that the estimated correlations are time varying, show persistence and differ among firms. Analysis of the potential explanatory variables reveals that the correlations decrease with negative expectations about future aggregate risks, but only for firms with a low default probability. In contrast, correlations are positively associated with specific risk measures, especially idiosyncratic stock risk and financial leverage. The positive relationship between the correlations and the leverage ratio suggests that target leverage can be achieved faster when the stock–bond correlation is high. Our results show that this is the case. ...

This paper proposes a multiple-model solution to the problem of controlling an air heating fan subject to faults. These faults are modeled by means of an abnormal unknown airflow input rate which the nominal controller is not designed for. Moreover, the average temperature of the air flowing through the system, which can be seen as an offset on the corresponding dynamics, is (slowly) time-varying and highly dependent on the ambient temperature. ...

Abstract
We consider a low complexity polynomial expansion (PE) detector in a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) uplink channel. In contrast to most massive MIMO systems in the literature, where single antenna user equipments (UEs) are assumed, multiple antenna UEs are employed in this paper. Moreover, the channel between a base station (BS) and a UE is a jointly correlated Rician fading channel. The PE detector reduces the computational complexity of the minimum mean square error (MMSE) detector by replacing the matrix inversion with an approximate matrix polynomial. ...

Abstract
The value of travel time is one of the most important factors in recreation demand models. Traditionally, the most common approach for its calculation has been the use of different proportions of the wage rate; however, criticisms of this method abound because in a recreational trip the relevant measure is the opportunity cost of leisure time rather than work time. In this paper, we adopt a novel approach in the literature using discrete choice models based on short-term decisions and independent of the labor market. ...

Abstract
While health care often focuses on acute or chronic illness, the elements necessary for good health are far more complex than we tend to recognize. Florence Nightingale understood this complexity and wrote extensively on the myriad social and environmental factors that influence well-being. Today these factors are termed “health determinants” and undergird the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This article explores how nurses can contextualize the SDGs within their daily practice and create holistic plans of care for patients, families, communities, and nations. ...

Abstract
This paper presents a methodology to estimate solar irradiance using an empiric-stochastic approach, which is based on the computation of normalization parameters from the solar irradiance data. For this study, the solar irradiance data were collected in a weather station during a year. Posttreatment included a trimmed moving average to smooth the data, the performance of a fitting procedure using a simple model to recover normalization parameters, and the estimation of a probability density, which evolves along the daytime, by means of a kernel density estimation method. ...
