Abstract
The current study meta-analytically examined the gendered nature of lateral and upward influence attempts. Drawing from gender role theory, we investigated the extent to which the gender of the influence actor affected the use and effectiveness of influence behaviors. The role of a gendered environmental context was also examined. The results provided limited support of gender role theory such that men were more likely to use agentic influence tactics and women were more likely to receive personal advancement outcomes when they used communal influence tactics. ...

Abstract
Phytochemical investigation of a dichloromethane extract from Garcinia amplexicaulis stem bark led to the isolation of four new tocotrienols (1–4); two known tocotrienols, two triterpenes, and a xanthone were also isolated. Their structures were mainly established using NMR and MS methods. The main compounds isolated, d-amplexichromanol (1) ...

Physical Description: p153–174
Subject Area: Economics
Subject Terms:  Tourism
Accession Number 124500
Abstract
The field of tourism has been described as pre-paradigmatic and multidisciplinary. The acclaimed ‘poverty of tourism theory’ is attributed to the fragmentation, managerialism and lack of unifying theoretical perspectives characterising empirical research. Constituting a sub-category of tourism, cruise research is presumably subject to similar criticism. ...

Abstract
This work demonstrates an innovative microfabricated air-cooling technology that employs an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) corona discharge (i.e., ionic wind pump) for electronics cooling applications. A single, microfabricated ionic wind pump element consists of two parallel collecting electrodes between which a single emitting tip is positioned. A grid structure on the collector electrodes can enhance the overall heat-transfer coefficient and facilitate an IC compatible batch process. ...

Abstract
Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are a major cause of viral gastroenteritis, with an estimated 3 million cases per year in the United Kingdom. HuNoVs have recently been isolated from pet dogs in Europe (M. Summa, C.-H. von Bonsdorff, and L. Maunula, J Clin Virol 53:244–247, 2012, http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jcv.2011.12.014), raising concerns about potential zoonotic infections. With 31% of United Kingdom households owning a dog, this could prove to be an important transmission route. To examine this risk, canine tissues were studied for their ability to bind to HuNoV in vitro. In addition, canine stool samples were analyzed for the presence of viral nucleic acid, and canine serum samples were tested for the presence of anti-HuNoV antibodies. The results showed ...

Tracking performance of a high-gain observer in the presence of measurement noise

Abstract
Unlike previous work in the area of high-gain observers, the focus of this paper is the effect measurement noise has on the tracking error, not the estimation error. Although a tradeoff exists between the speed of state reconstruction and the bound on the steady-state estimation error, such a compromise is not evident in the tracking error of the first state. The purpose of this work is to provide the reader with the relationship between the high-gain observer parameter and the tracking error and its subsequent derivatives. ...

Abstract
Intentional Controlled Islanding (ICI) has been proposed as a corrective measure of last resort to split the power system into several sustainable islands and prevent cascading outages. This paper proposes a novel ICI algorithm based on a linear programming (LP) formulation that directly determines an islanding solution with minimal power-flow disruption for any given number of islands ...
