We present a thorough examination of two-element antenna arrays that mimic the sense of directional hearing of the parasitoid fly Ormia Ochracea and examine the design tradeoffs of such arrays. Recently, it was demonstrated that these antenna arrays demonstrate enhanced sensitivity to the direction of incidence of an electromagnetic wave, compared to regular arrays occupying the same aperture. Fatigue characteristics of as-cast acicular ductile iron (ASGI) produced by alloying and controlled cooling and as-rolled 42CrMo4 steel were studied. In the well-known distributed target-SIR-tracking power control algorithm (TPC), when the system is infeasible (a constrained power vector does not exist to attain target-SIRs), all non-supported users (those who cannot obtain their target-SIRs) transmit at their maximum power. Abstract
This study investigates the efficacy of 22 Syrian isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis (Berliner) (Bt) against Syringopais temperatella under laboratory conditions by feeding larvae on bacteria-contaminated barley leaves.The results indicated that all Bt isolates caused concentration and time related mortality, in which the highest mortalities were recorded at the highest concentration (original concentration), and at the latest time after Bt application(72 h).Mortality caused by all Bt isolates was significantly higher than mortality in the control. Isolate no. 1 gave significantly (P<0.05) the highest mortality percentage (73.3%) against the early larval instars. For the late larval instars, the isolates no. 21 and 22 were at bar with each other and gave significantly (P<0.05) the highest percentage of mortality (53.3%). Early larval instars were significantly (P<0.05) more susceptible to all concentrations of Bt isolates used than the late larval ones.In conclusion, the study showed that some of B. thuringiensis isolates tested in this study were pathogenic to S. temperatella. ... Abstract
This article presents an investigation that was funded by the Swedish Institute into the role of creative practice in architectural research as evidenced in Swedish doctoral theses. The sample was mapped and analysed in terms of clusters of interest, approaches, cultures of knowledge and uses of creative practice. This allowed the identification of the ontological, epistemological and methodological attitudes of the researchers, and hence a glimpse of their implicit worldview. The authors claim that the relationship between worldview and research actions in emerging areas of research such as architecture is often under-scrutinised, resulting in a disjunction between aims and strategies for action. Architectural research in which creative practices make an essential contribution to the aims, might represent something new in academic research.
