Abstract
Nutritional labels are mandatory on virtually all packaged food items sold in the United States. The nutritional information on these labels is reported on a “per-serving-size” basis. However, unbeknownst to many consumers, current Food and Drug Administration regulations allow manufacturers some discretion in setting serving sizes—a factor that the authors hypothesize has implications for consumer behavior. For example, adopting a smaller serving size allows marketers to reduce the reported calories, ...

Abstract
Non-culture-based diagnostic strategies are needed for diagnosing invasive candidiasis (IC). We evaluated serial serum (1?3)-?-D-glucan (BG) levels in patients in the surgical trauma intensive care unit (SICU) patients with clinical evidence of IC. Serum samples from patients admitted to the SICU for a minimum of 3 days were collected twice weekly and analyzed for BG by using a Fungitell kit with a positive cutoff of ?80 pg/ml ...

Abstract
Nannozinones A (1) and B (2) were discovered as metabolites of the recently isolated Nannocystis pusilla strain MNa10913 belonging to the poorly studied myxobacterial family Nannocystaceae. In contrast, the structurally related sorazinones A (5) and B (6) were isolated from Sorangium cellulosum strain Soce895, which was known as the producer of the antibiotic thuggacin A. The extract also contained ...

Senecavirus A (SVA) is an emerging picornavirus that has been recently associated with an increased number of outbreaks of vesicular disease and neonatal mortality in swine. Many aspects of SVA infection biology and epidemiology remain unknown. Here, we present a diagnostic investigation conducted in swine herds affected by vesicular disease and increased neonatal mortality. Clinical and environmental samples were collected ...

Abstract
Ironic consumption refers to using a product (brand, style, behavior, etc.) with the intent of signaling a meaning (identity, message, belief, etc.) that reverses the conventional meaning of the product. We report five studies showing that people are more likely to think that a consumer is using a product ironically when the product is incongruent with the consumer’s known identity or beliefs. The impression that ironic consumers make on an observer depends on the observer’s relationship with the consumed product. When a consumer uses a product associated with the observer’s in-group (e.g., wearing a “Powered by Kale” shirt in front of a vegan ...
