Abstract
Drawing from disability theory and Chicana/o feminist and queer theory, this essay argues that the novels The Rain God and Migrant Souls by Arturo Islas Jr. produce a vision of Chicana/o community that circumvents the exclusions on which cultural nationalisms are often predicated. Even as both betray uneasiness with Chicano nationalism, they embrace the drive toward community that lies at the core of nationalist impulses. Moreover, their vision of community finds expression through images of disability. The novels therefore provide an opportunity to contemplate how disability might modify and expand the construction of concepts like nation, family, and community. ...

Abstract
The antibiotic resistome is dynamic and ever expanding, yet its foundations were laid long before the introduction of antibiotics into clinical practice. Here, we revisit our theoretical framework for the resistome concept and consider the many factors that influence the evolution of novel resistance genes, the spread of mobile resistance elements, and the ramifications of these processes for clinical practice. Observing the trends and prevalence of genes within the antibiotic resistome is key to maintaining the efficacy of antibiotics in the clinic. ...

This research defines the basis for a new quantitative approach for retrieving useful analogies for innovation based on the relevant performance characteristics of functions. The concept of critical functionality is the idea of identifying only a certain set of pertinent design functions observed in a single domain that significantly define the functionality of the product. A critical function (CF) is a function within a functional model ...

The number of men diagnosed with prostate cancer is increasing and internationally there are high incidence rates. It is important that nurses and healthcare professionals are enabled to provide appropriate care to those men affected by prostate cancer and their families. Despite this need, there is recognition that many professionals feel ill prepared and lack knowledge in a number of areas. This paper presents the development of a Virtual Patient (VP) online resource to support practitioner learning. ...

Abstract
Up to 85% of hospital in-patients will require some form of vascular access device to deliver essential fluids, drug therapy, nutrition and blood products, or facilitate sampling. The failure rate of these devices is unacceptably high, with 20–69% of peripheral intravenous catheters and 15–66% of central venous catheters failing due to occlusion, depending on the device, setting and population. A range of strategies have been developed to maintain device patency, including intermittent flushing. However, there is limited evidence informing flushing practice and little is known about the current flushing practices. ...

Repeated consumption of products and experiences leads to a reduction in enjoyment over time, a phenomenon that is commonly referred to as “satiation.” Three studies show that consumers satiate more slowly to products that are consistent with a currently active identity. Abstract
In this paper, using a generalised valuation framework inspired by Ohlson, we show that corporate social performance (CSP) is value relevant and that, in particular, it appears to be associated with a higher coefficient on earnings. This could be attributable to either a lower cost of equity for these firms, or greater earnings persistence. We show that, once industry membership is controlled for, any cost of capital effect is minimal. Regression tests based on realised earnings confirm that the valuation effect is attributable mainly to greater earnings persistence in firms with higher levels of CSP. These outcomes are consistent with higher CSP conferring a competitive advantage on firms. ...

Abstract
Family presence during resuscitation is the attendance of family members in a location that affords visual or physical contact with the patient during resuscitation. Providing the opportunity for families to be present during resuscitation embraces the family-centred care philosophy which underpins paediatric care. Having families present continues to spark much debate amongst health care professionals. ...

Falls are the most frequently recorded patient safety incident in the inpatient context. However, higher rates of falls are reported in rehabilitation settings compared to acute care settings. In the rehabilitation setting, patients with a traumatic brain injury have been identified as at a high risk of falling. However to date, research into the nature of falls involving this patient population is limited. ...

Abstract
Informal caregiver spouses are of pivotal importance in the way that patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease cope with their daily life, including their opportunity to stay at home and avoid hospitalisations in the last stages of the disease. However, caregiving is associated with increased morbidity and mortality among caregivers. Further understanding of the role as an informal caregiver spouse of patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is needed to develop supportive interventions aimed at reducing the caregiver burden. ...

Encouraging consumers to select meals in advance rather than at mealtime has been proposed as a strategy to promote healthier eating decisions, taking advantage of the improved self-control that is thought to accompany decisions about the future. In two field studies at an employee cafeteria and a third in a university setting, we examine how time delays between placing a lunch order and picking it up affect the healthfulness of that lunch. ...

Abstract
Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a common complication of immunosuppression. Rapid diagnosis using molecular techniques is essential to improve patient survival. PCR techniques are promising in enhancing Aspergillus detection in blood and respiratory samples. We evaluate for the first time the performances of two commercial real-time PCR kits, the A. fumigatus Bio-Evolution and the MycoGENIE A. fumigatus for the detection of A. fumigatus DNA in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) from patients with and without IPA. Seventy-three BAL samples were included. Thirty-one of them corresponded to patients with probable IPA, 11 to patients with possible IPA, and 31 to patients without aspergillosis, according to the 2008 European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer/Mycoses Study Group criteria. In the probable IPA group, A. fumigatus Bio-Evolution and the MycoGENIE A. fumigatus real-time PCR kits showed a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 81% and 71%, respectively. ...

Abstract
Axial piston pumps with variable volumetric displacement are often used to control flow and pressure in hydraulic systems. The displacement control mechanism in these pumps occupies significant space and accounts for significant cost in the pump design. Fixed displacement pumps have lower cost and a more compact design but suffer from a significant energy consumption disadvantage due to the need to control flow and pressure by throttling flow and bypassing unused flow to pressures below the discharge pressure. ...

Shared vision has been used by the nursing community for over 20 years, but this concept and its language are not presented consistently. At its most basic level, shared vision consists of identifying what a group wants to create. The main objective of this study is to provide a concept analysis of shared vision from an evolutionary nursing perspective within health care organizations. ...
